The stars predict international recognition for SONU NIGAM ....

He is a performer par excellence, a well known figure in the world of music, and a versatile singer with a velvety voice that resembles that of legendary singer Mohammad Rafi. He has numerous 'best playback singer' titles to his credit. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about none other than Sonu Nigam. He was just three years old when he gave his first stage performance with his father. From then on, there was no looking back. He worked as a child artist for several Bollywood films and then made his debut as a playback singer in Gulshan Kumar' Aaja Meri Jaan in 1993. And then came 'Accha Sila Diya tune', which became a superhit and gave him the recognition as an established playback singer. He then went on to host the singing talent hunt Sa Re Ga Ma on Zee TV, the show which made him a familiar face in every household and also helped him bag a few films to act. He dabbled in acting as well, but it didn't really work for him.
There is a lot on his platter as of now- playback singing, judging the reality show X factor, and his much talked about song with Britney Spears. But what do the stars say about his year ahead? As Sonu turns 38 on 30th July, Ganesha predicts his future with the help of Vedic astrology.
Date of birth:- 30th July 1973
Time of birth:- Unknown
Place of birth:- Faridabad, Haryana, India
Sonu Nigam Surya Kundli

Astrological Observations

  • Jupiter will be transiting through the 10th House during the year ahead.
  • After November 2011, Saturn will form Square with Natal Sun.
  • Transiting Rahu and Ketu will be in Square with Natal Venus but will be in Trine with Natal Sun during the year ahead.

Astrological Predictions

  • Ganesha feels that Sonu will have to try hard to remain in the limelight during the year ahead.
  • His performance will surely improve because of Jupiter's transit through the 10th House from Natal Sun but that doesn't mean that he will be able to commercialize his talent.
  • On the very positive side, Ganesha feels that because of the same transit of Jupiter, Sonu will also have avenues opening in international market.
  • He may not be very active in the field of playback singing during the year ahead but may still remain in the limelight between December 2011 to May 2012.
  • In short, Sonu's year ahead though it seems to be very average, there is scope for him to become an 'international celebrity' during the days to come.

Ganesha wishes him many happy returns of the day and good luck for the year ahead.

The Rise & Rise of SONU NIGAM ....

Sonu Niigaam, a name to reckon with in the Indian music fraternity, can be best described as one of the greatest playback singers of Bollywood.

However, when Sonu started his playback singing career in Bollywood, he sang a lot of of Mohammad Rafi songs. Today, he is considered as one of the most powerful voices in Bollywood.

The biggest debate that’s haunting many music lovers of the country is that whether Sonu has achieved the level of excellence that Rafi had reached in the 50s and 60s. But Sonu doesn’t appreciate the debate and says that Rafi was unparallel and will always remain the uncrowned King of Bollywood music.

Mohammad Rafi’s influence
Rafi is the ultimate idol for Sonu. His singing career began at the age of three, when he joined his father on stage to sing Mohammad Rafi's ‘Kya Hua Tera Vaada, Wo Kasam Wo Irada’. Since then, Sonu joined his father on his singing appearances at weddings and parties.

During his teenage, he also participated in numerous music competitions and also won. Later at the age of 19, he decided to move to Mumbai with his father in order to pursue a career in singing.

Shortly, he developed his own individual style and is now one of the most sought after male voices in Bollywood. But at the request of music composer Pyarelal Sharma of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo, Sonu once again agreed to recreate the legendary Mohammad Rafi magic. On 7th May, 2011 Sonu presented some everlasting songs sung by Mohammad Rafi in Mumbai during a special concert.

As an actor
Sonu, who did his schooling in Delhi, also worked as a child artist in quite a few movies like Pyaara Dushman, Hum se hai Zamaana, Ustaadi Ustad Ke, Kaamchor, Taqdeer and Betaab between 1980 and 1983.

As a host
He also hosted the singing show Sa Re Ga Ma in 1995. It was this show that gave Sonu an opportunity to showcase his singing skills as well as his natural charm and audience appeal.

As a singer

Sonu’s big break was the song ‘Achchha Sila Diya’ from the album Bewafa Sanam (1995), which became very popular. Soon after that, singing offers started pouring in. He rose to fame with Anu Malik’s song ‘Sandese Aate Hain’ for Border in 1997.

But his image as a copy of Rafi was changed after his rendition of the Nadeem-Shravan composed song ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’ in Pardes in 1997. Since then, he has created a matchless style of his own and has become a role model for many upcoming singers.

As an RJ
Sonu added one more silhouette to his career in 2006 when he became a Star Radio Jockey for Radio City 91.1 FM. He had more than 5 million listeners glued to their radios for one hour every week on his show Life Ki Dhun with Sonu Niigaam.

The show became a stage for him to share his views, interact with his fans and interview colleagues from the music industry. He even persuaded Lata Mangeshkar for a 3 and a half hour long live interview which by itself was a huge achievement.

International recognition
In November 2007, Sonu was invited to perform at the prestigious Harvard University on the significant event of the installation of the statue of Dr Drew Gilpin Faust who was the university’s 28th president.

Not just that, he recently collaborated with none other than Britney Spears for the remix of her popular song called ‘I Wanna Go’. The song is going to be a fusion of east meeting west. It is said that the ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ singer will sing a few lines in Hindi in the remix version whereas Sonu will recite some classical notes.

He also collaborated with Michael Jackson’s brother Jerome Jackson for the track of ‘This Is It’ as a tribute to the late pop sensation.

Sonu Niigaam at a wedding ...

Though the Mumbai monsoons have thrown everything off schedule, they couldn't dampen the spirits of the baraatis who joined the wedding celebration of Gaurabh Prakash and Richa Anand.

Writer and lyricist Satya Prakash, Gaurabh's father, ensured that all the guests were well looked after. Salim and wife Salma Khan represented the khandaan. Also among the guests was Sonu Niigaam. The singer also signed autographs and posed for pictures with the other guests. The scrumptuous spread was a big hit with the attendees. The celebrations went on till late in the night.

I will always choose Sonu Ji as my mentor --- Piyush Kapoor ....

Singer and the contestant on Sony TV's show X Factor Piyush Kapoor reacts after his elimination from the show.

Not at all feeling let down by Sonu Nigam, his mentor on the show who also voted him out, Piyush says, " I don't really have any plans when I return home. I will continue singing with my band," says he. Speaking about his experience of training under an accomplished singer like Sonu Nigam, Piyush says, "Sonu Sir is awesome and I admire the versatility of his voice. He is capable of singing any style and I really learnt a lot from him. The most important thing is confidence that he built up in me. During my performance I used to think that I am the king of the song and the audiences sitting are uneducated about it. That's why my previous performances turned out to be great." Ask him if he is disappointed with Sonu Nigam for having voted him out and Piyush says, "Not at all because the next moment he voted me out, he came up to me and said sorry. I felt really awkward that such a great singer was coming to me and apologizing. I would choose Sonu Ji as my mentor always. I knew that the performance I gave was not really appealing. Frankly speaking I did not expect to be in the bottom two after last week. And for the same reason I was not very careful in selecting the songs. And on that day too my song selection wasn't good. I guess I should have selected a better song for my performance because even I felt the disconnection with the song during my performance," says Piyush on the hindsight. Remind him that Sanjay Leela Bhansali supported him a lot and Piyush says, "I am really grateful that such big celebrities are supporting me and they believe in my talents. I am really happy that they have been great judges till the end." Although his parents are disappointed that Piyush is out of the show Piyush is thankful that his parents have accepted it well and are supporting him now. On the chances of who will win X Factor, Piyush says,"I would like to see Nirmiti and Deewana in the finals."
