Sonu Niigaam Ji celebrates the success of Dabangg with 'Khan' daan !!!

The 'Khan'daan is still celebrating the super success of their film Dabangg... and why not, it has broken all records.

But this party wasn't thrown by Salman or his brothers Arbaaz or Sohail Khan. It was a bash given by their childhood friend Basab Paul at Vie Lounge in Juhu. And what a rocking Sunday night it was, with rock star Salman letting his hair down and shaking to the groovy music of his film! Joining him was Sonakshi who came along with her mother Punam Sinha.

Looking quite chilled out in a summery dress, Sonakshi enjoyed herself thoroughly while 'Munni' Malaika Arora Khan and her sister Amrita looked stunning in short dresses. Arpita and Seema Khan too were present and so was Sonu Sood. The other Khan who came to wish the family was Aamir. Sonu Niigaam Ji, Vinod Khanna, Tinu Anand, Anurag Kashyap, Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder, Bhushan and Divya Kumar, Saajid-Waajid, Subhash Ghai, David Dhavan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra were among many others who were seen at this do which went on till 3 am...

Sonu Niigaam Ji sings in 40 different voices !!!

Shirish Kunder has become something of a do-it-yourself guy. He used to be an editor, graduated to being a writer, a director and after that, a producer. His latest reinvention of self sees him as a music composer and lyricist.

Tees Maar Khan director Farah Khan's husband has composed the flick's theme and title track.
Interestingly, crooner Sonu Niigaam Ji has sung in 40 different voices for the title track. Adds the source, "There are male and female voices and many chorus singers and each voice belongs to Sonu. After the song was sung it was layered but no special effects were added. We recorded from 10 pm to 4 am and he recorded the song in six hours flat! Shirish wanted to take a break Sonu refused saying, 'toh phir bhoot utar jayega!' "

Says Shirish, "I sat in on the arrangements and decided on each and every instrument to be played. I chose to compose this song as it's the most challenging of all the tracks. It tells you about all the characters. It's also the first song our babies started hearing and for me that's very special."

A unit source says, "The title track was the first song they recorded. Farah and Akshay Kumar loved the song. When T-Series owner Bhushan Kumar heard it (he wasn't told who had scored the music), he loved it so much that he wanted Shirish's song to kick off the promotional music video campaign on October 15."

Bhushan confirms, "Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Rajviani have composed the other four tracks. I had few expectations with this track as Shirish is a new composer. But I was pleasantly surprised and very excited on hearing the track! Akshay and Farah were planning to start the first promo with Sheila Ki Jawani but I felt we should start with this one."

Sonu Niigaam Ji at Rahul Vaidya's birthday bash !!!

Recently Sonu Niigaam Ji  was spotted at the birthday party thrown by Rahul Vaidya at the Imperial Palace, 4 Bungalows, Mumbai.. Sonu Ji was dressed in black shirt and blue jeans with black shoes.. With His long locks, the singer came in with other B town celebs.. Including Shankar Mahadevan, Shamir Tandon, Ajay Jhingran, Mika Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shefali Zariwala, Aditya Narayan, Jay Bhanushali, Chunky Pandey, Comedian Sunil Pal,   .. Some other guests present were Sharib - Toshi, Abhijeet Sawant, Prajakta Shukre, Mauli Dave..


While Shankar Mahadevan started singing breathless song, Mika Singh took over the drums.. Mika also sang three songs.. Sonu Ji also sang a line for Rahul Vaidya while he was cutting the cake... Baar Baar Din Ye Aaye...

Sonu Niigaam Ji made an entrance on Shabana Azmi's Bday party !!!

Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar are Bollywood’s ‘intellectual couple’; one being an actress par excellence and the other a prominent scriptwriter, poet and lyricist. But very few know that ‘Jadoo’ (as Shabana calls Javed fondly) has the best sense of humour in the industry. Since Shabana works closely for the upliftment of slums, her cake was just that! Javed Akhtar had Shabana’s birthday cake designed as a slum: complete with huts, gutters and the muck. He even called it ‘Shabana Nagar, Galli No. 60’! Yes, because his wife Shabana was turning 60 years old.

Sonu Niigaam Ji may be nasty to the media otherwise, but the singer was the life of the party. He had turned up in all-white and his hair even looked good (for a change). Taking over from the DJ, Sonu doled out songs for the gathering through the night and was joined by singer Alka Yagnik and music composer Lalit Pandit.

 

With the Manali topi and all, Amitabh Bachchan was in a very good mood. In fact, as our insider pointed out, the superstar has in an excessively jovial mood. Hmm, we’re thinking that his recent National Award win must be the secret. The veteran actor chatted away with old friends Shatrughan Sinha and Vinod Khanna. When Perizaad Zorabian hugged Amitabh, Shatru quipped, “Now my work is done, I should leave.” Touché ‘Shotgun’! Shatrughan Sinha and Amitabh were at loggerheads a few years ago when the Sinha had jibed at the Bachchan family’s absence at an award function.

Some people took the headgear theme too literally. Shankar Mahadevan made an appearance in a Rastafarian wig! Vidya Balan was seen sporting a strange contraption. Maybe you can tell us what it is! Starlets Dia Mirza, Amrita Rao, Rhea Kapoor, and oldtimers like Sandhya Mridul and Urmila Matondkar were also spotted at the party...

It's Nigam not Niigaam says Sonu Ji !!!

He had changed the spelling of his name to the awkward sounding 'Niigaam', but that phase, Sonu Ji says, is over. Now, it's back to being Nigam again as it has nothing to do with numerology anymore. Sonu Ji says he's "been enlightened" and that he's surprised at himself for all the changes he has undergone, including the name, the hairstyle and the anger management. Says he, "The name change was one of the journeys I had to take in life. I had to go through that path to learn the truth. And I have realised that I don't want to tamper with these forces. I am happy with all the astrological arrangements I was born with. I am happy finding success with my original name – Sonu Nigam."

His new look, complete with long locks and a chiselled chest, has been in the news recently. "I had the same hairstyle for 30 years, so I needed to change. Otherwise, I would've stagnated. But I realised that we are an emotional country and people get attached to you as a person, even your look and your ways. And the change is difficult for them to accept. But my hair has been the same for a while now. It is suiting my state of mind. I haven't cut it for 10 months now," Sonu Ji says.

And his state of mind, Sonu Ji tells us, is uncluttered, like his name. He explains, "My perspective of life has changed. Music is a state of mind, and mine's different from yours. I am a certain way and a lot of people don't understand what I do. But I have become accepting of that now." He has even learnt to control his rather temperamental behaviour. In earlier interviews, Sonu Ji has often said that he was called a "bachcha" in the industry, and that led to frustration. But now, he's looking at things differently. "I have started controlling myself. I dissociate myself when Sonu Ji is angry. I've controlled my anger greatly. I am surprised at myself," he says. The changes have also led to positivity in his relationship with his wife, which had hit a rocky phase in the past. It went to the extent of Sonu Ji saying publicly that his marriage was "on standby". But things have improved. He says, "Like any other couple, we have had trouble and our share of problems. I am a difficult man to be with."I am very imaginative and as a creative person, I give you the space you want. I can't tie anyone down. In turn, I myself want a lot of space." But, he's working on his family life and says, "I make it a point that all three of us – I, my wife and my son – travel together even when I go to Los Angeles."

So, what is it with LA that he keeps heading there, a la AR Rahman? "Well, I like the transition between the buzz in Mumbai and the silence in LA. I've got my family, friends and my soul in Mumbai. I've lived here since I was 18. But, when I go to LA, Mumbai becomes more important. It gives much more importance to Mumbai."

In an almost philosophical tone, Sonu Ji adds, "Every day is a high point for me now. Giving this interview is a high point for me. I've never been this happy or content with life. I've been able to understand something about life." Even though the "enlightenment or revelation" is something that Sonu feels he doesn't need to share, he says, "I had never understood the world till now. But now, I have. So I have changed. I have become more non-judgmental and accepting. I'm not taking people for granted – parents, friends, and people we care for. But, I'm not content with what there is for me at the moment, for then there will be no goal to achieve."

Close on the heels of these changes, Sonu Ji's packed with work – there's perhaps a romantic album and definitely a movie, plus the usual shows and singing that he does. Says Sonu Ji, "I like to keep myself engaged in multiple things. So, there's obviously this reality show that I'm doing, and it's the right time for an album and I want to bring out a romantic album. There's also a movie, but I can't talk about it at the moment." It's clichéd, but in Sonu Ji's case, it seems, change is truly the only constant!

After the television fraternity, it’s time for the film family to gear up for their share of We Are Family. Sonu Niigaam Ji, Shahid Kapoor, Rajkumar Hirani, Amol Gupte, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy attended the screening with director Siddharth Malhotra...

The movie visibly touched Shahid Kapoor‘s heart, who tweeted after watching the film, “Just saw my buddy Siddharth Malhotra’s film ‘We Are Family, Good job Sid, proud of you .. Go watch it you all.. Good film.”
