Attention all Sonu Niigaam Ji fans !! Get ready ...

The ballooning budget of the Commonwealth Games makes headlines each day, but it has some top musicians playing at less than half their usual price. The musicians aren't complaining, but rather, are excited to represent their country at the Games. The cultural fest begins on October 1 – two days ahead of the Games. Its inaugural show at the Games Village will see Parikrama opening the fest on day 1, followed by Half Step Down on day 2, ThemClones on day 4, Kailash Kher on day 12 and Indian Ocean on the last day of the fest, October 13.

A source overheard one of the musicians commenting lightheartedly, " Maine socha apni country ke naam pe agar kam paise mein perform karne ko keh rahein hain toh negotiate nahin karna chahiye. We have some responsibility as citizens. But since I got to know of their real budget, I feel I could've made a lot of money!"

Jokes apart, they're all planning to give memorable performances. Shankar Mahadevan says, "We'll do something special, something that'll enhance the spirit of the country and the city." He admits that the price at which they are performing "is not even comparable to how much they charge normally," but adds, "How can we think of charging that much? It's an honour to perform at such a prestigious event." Surojit Dev of ThemClones agrees, "Yes, we are performing at a rebate. Had it been only us, we might have had some regrets, but this discounting is done by all those who are performing. Anyway, playing at the Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Indian Ocean too, decided to perform at a token amount. "And whether the people in power are doing their job or not is not our concern; our focus is on supporting our country and the city in whatever way we can," states Dhruv Jagasia, manager, Indian Ocean.

Performing at the Games will also mean international exposure, which is also why the moolah matter's turned secondary. " Rock n' roll bands have a niche market; we don't perform for such a wide audience usually, so playing for this event is an international platform for us, hence it's a great opportunity," explains Dhawal Mudgal of Half Step Down. But there are a few more apprehensions like that of security. Kailash Kher, who was worried earlier, sounded positive when we spoke to him. "In terms of security, Delhi, I think, is the safest, so I'm all excited and looking forward to it," he told us.
A source close to the cultural committee reveals that earlier, there were four-five festivals planned, but were later reduced to two. While Kunal Ganjawala said he's yet to give his final nod, Alka Yagnik's spokesperson confirmed her presence. When DT spoke to Subir Malik, manager and keyboardist, Parikrama, he neither denied nor confirmed the band's performance for the event. Others expected to perform are Hariharan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Sonu Niigaam Ji, Himesh Reshammiya, Shreya Ghoshal and Sukhwinder Singh.

However, all are not happy with the fee compromise. Rudy Wallang of Soulmate, which is performing on October 7, says, "Yes, we were told that all have brought down their fees. And we do look at the positive side, which is that we're getting to perform at such an event. Considering the amount the not-so-deserving are earning out of this, it's not about regrets, it's just that there should be a little more respect for the musicians. And in this case, we could have been paid just the amount we usually charge, if not extra." There's some 'wealth' loss 'common' to all these musicians, yet they aren't playing spoilsport, what say??

Little superstar Nevaan Niigaam sings with Lata Mangeshkar Ji ...

Little Nevaan Nigam’s turning out to be a regular chip off the old block. At three, Bollywood rocker Sonu Niigaam Ji’s son has already cut his first song. And, that too with the Voice of India — Lata Mangeshkar herself!

The story goes that Lataji approached Sonu Ji and asked him if Nevaan would conclude a song on her new album by performing a sargam. This, those into singing and Hindustani classical music will know, is far more difficult than just singing or reciting words.

But Sonu Ji, who himself has contributed and sang alongside Lataji on the new album, immediately agreed. And the singer is now brimming with pride and joy because the songstress posted on a networking site that her two most favourite singers are Sonu and Nevaan.

Sonu Ji told TOI, “I believe that Nevaan is truly blessed. To be asked by Lataji to sing with her at this young age, is in itself a great honour. Her compliment to Nevaan even tops all the ones that I’ve got through my entire career.”

Nevaan isn’t formally being trained as a singer yet. “But he’s an intelligent child and grasped every sur very quickly. He has a good music sense,” said the proud father. “When we taught him the sargam, the incentive we gave him was the opportunity to sing on the mike. Nevaan was eager enough!”

God bless the little angel..

I want my fans to miss me rather than say they had enough of Me --- Sonu Niigaam Ji ...

Sporting a Jesus-like look these days, singer Sonu Niigaam Ji wants his fans to miss him rather than say they had enough of him...

You do not seem to be singing for films like before. The respect I had myself has grown. I took a step back in 2006. I would rather have people say that they miss me rather than say they had enough of me. I just can’t die counting the number of songs I sing. That is when I decided that every output has to have quality. I am now a singer who is not available for everyone. I do not sing for every offer that comes my way. The work is for quality now.

But it is in these last five years that you have sung the maximum numbers in Kannada.
It is all luck and God’s grace. There was a time, not very long ago, when there were excellent melodies emerging from Bollywood. Hindi films had the best songs. But things have changed and every filmmaker wants a fast, foot-tapping numbers. Comparatively, Kannada film
has no monotony and it surprises me every time.

You are more popular in Kannada than in other languages.
I have been popular in Hindi music for a decade and a half now. In Kannada, I get appropriate
and good songs that has kept me popular.

Being so much in demand means you get to choose the best songs in each film.
That is not done. And it should not be that way. The filmmaker and the composer select me for the song which they feel I should sing. I do not interfere. Luckily the songs I get are good.

God seems to be playing a big role in your success.
I stopped being religious 10 years ago. I am a spiritual person. I am always testing my limits. My father was no star but he worked hard. All we need to do is work hard. The result is not always in our hands.

You cut an album Neene Bari Neene in Kannada last year. Anything new on that front.
Myself, Mano Murthy and Jayanth Kaikini worked on that for free. We also spent our money on that album. It was not for a commercial cause but it was a gift to Kannadigas to say thank you. People should not just depend on films for their music. There is a whole lot of other music. Devotional songs are big in Kannada. I have set my eyes on it...

You manage to sing for Kannada films without coming to Bangalore.
My schedules are tight. But that does not mean that I sing without due diligence. I ask filmmakers to make use of my studio in Mumbai. When I was on a US tour last year, I interacted on video conferencing with composers Harikrishna and Arjun. It was as good as talking face to face. The quality of the work is never compromised.

When you started singing Kannada songs, many felt that your pronunciation was not right.
If the person who is making me sing is happy with what I am delivering then it is fine with me too. Unless and until someone corrects me I will not know if I have pronounced the word correctly. Many in the North address me as Shonu Nigam. I keep telling them it is Sonu Niigaam.

Do you listen to your songs in Kannada?
The title track of Mungaru Male is my favourite. But unfortunately I have not heard all the songs I have sung in Kannada. After the recording is done, I get to hear it only if the filmmakers send me the CD..

Sonu Niigaam & Viviek wishes all a very Happy Independence Day ...

At stroke of midnight, on 15 August 1947, India became an independent nation. This was preceded by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's famous speech titled Tryst with destiny.

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance..... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again.

If we are unable to quote our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's speech in verbatim, the gist of comprehending this speech can surely ignite a strong passion of patriotism. Not many of us, young Indians have ever bothered brushing up on our old, dusty pages on books of Indian history, for their lies a world so different from modern India soaked with unspoken figures of deaths of innumerable Indians who died for our sake in the hands of our oppressors so that we can lead the plush, comfortable lives of luxury that we are now living. However, not many of us even realize that our country , India, is the greatest model to world and the first country ever to win independence through non-violence under the able leadership of the charismatic leader of our time, Mahatma Gandhiji.

Our Indian history like our vibrant culture of so many diversities in terms of religion, culture and traditional values can be a large canvass to depict our origins which has provided to change accomodation like no other country in this world. No country in the world can boast of such a cultural amalgamation.

The Day of Indian Independence is a day of celebration for every Indian to commemorate our jubilant victory over the British who ruled our country for nearly three centuries. It is to this success that every Indian stands up, chin held up with pride and salutes one another Jai Hind to mark 63rd anniversary of Indian victory...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sonu Niigaam & Viviek  wishes all our readers a very Happy Independence Day... Lets celebrate it in a very special way by lighting candles in fond memories of all those martyrs who fought bravely just to save our lives.. And still our brothers are fighting on the borders round the clock so that we can live with peace and prosperity... Salute to all the soldiers...

Reality shows are opportunity to learn --- Sonu Niigaam Ji ...

Sonu Niigaam Ji who was recently in news for having deleted his twitter account after being panned by his followers for having sported two pig tails in one of his music shows, is now back in scene with a reality show Chhote Ustaad.

He would be seen judging the kids singing reality show that has roped in 10 Indian kids and 10 from Pakistan. They will together form 10 teams in which each team will have one Indian child and one Pakistani child. The teams would compete against each other and not the nationality. The show aims at spreading the message of love and peace across the countries.

As we all know Sonu Ji has been choosy about the TV shows he has done so far. In a candid interaction with media he spoke about the appeal of Chhote Ustad. Scroll down to also find out Sonu’s opinion on religion and cosmic energy.
-------------------------------------------
You are one of the popular reality show judge on television and now you are set to judge the kids in this show.
According to me judging is wrong concept. Since it’s a format of the show it has to be done. I don’t think that I am capable of judging someone just because I am somebody big. Also I don’t think that I am better than the contestants who I am suppose to judge on the show. There can be someone who is better of me. It’s just the matter of age.

You have been very choosy about doing shows on TV, so what made you take up this show?
I liked the concept as I believe it is difficult to change the adults’ mentality. If they have grown with the view that Muslims are enemies or Hindus are enemies they will continue to believe so, no matter how much you pursue them. So when the children from the neighbouring country would come to our nation and receive the warmth here, definitely they would go back and spread good words there. It has to begin from somewhere so why not us. For sure, you will see the difference soon.

How do you look at religion?
I feel religion should be domesticated and not internationalized. It means one should follow the religion at home but should not create noise of it. The minute religion steps out of house, peace is disturbed and hostility prevails because one tends to promote his/her religion as superior most.

Isn’t the reality shows are adding pressure on these little ones?
As far as the pressure of competition is concerned, competition exists in schools as well. The reality shows are good platform for kids to learn and gauge their standings. Sachin Tendulkar did not decide to become cricketer at the age of 18. He had been playing since he was a child. So when these kids participate in reality shows, they actually avail the opportunity to learn.

Today as a leading music personality, what do you suggest to all those children who aspire to make career in music?
I would suggest to their parents that they should teach their children at least one instrument so that the child does not rate the songs as good for the number of times he has heard it but for the quality of it.

You have worked with Gajendra Singh in past as well.
We have seen the days when we use to shoot three to five episodes in a day. It use to be so hectic that I had started dreaming of Sa Re Ga Ma when I am asleep. At that time there was no voting system. In a day we use to have several guests on the show for the different episodes and then I had to prepare respective songs in their honour. I remember I have written my own scripts so many times. So I would sum up saying that the bond has grown stronger by the day.

You have been constantly doing something or the other with your hair.
What if someday I turn bald! You never know about men hair fall. I simply grow them. Last time I trimmed my hair in October. Also it’s my age, I can’t carry the same chocolate boy look all my life. Also I like to play with my hair do.

You are the first Indian to delete your twitter account.
I was not there on twitter to let people know that I got up or I had food. I am too good with words to do something of that sort. It is also dangerous for blunt people like me. If somebody’s writing wrong things about me obviously I would react to it. I had started giving back to people in a manner I was not suppose to, so I finally decided to delete it as I realized it is bread and butter of the people who are doing it but not mine. I should not retaliate to it. I will be back on twitter just for the music workshop. For that matter, Facebook is better as there you have a choice, here in twitter anybody who likes me can follow.

You have also been singing less in films these days.

When I said that I have reduced on work I did not mean that am not working. But the leading composers like Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishal-Shekhar and Pritam made it a point that if he’s not singing let’s not give him work only, and they all made the best use of this opportunity. It’s been a long that I sang for them. That’s not right, instead one should look at it in a way that when the person is exclusive that means he is not selling cheap.

What do you have to say about many Pakistani singers flourishing in India?
If one is destined to earn name and fame in India it will happen to him. His destiny has already been written. It is all upon the one’s cosmic structure. I completely believe in cosmic structures, it is difficult to comprehend but everything in this world happens for a reason.

But it’s never other way round. We have never seen any Indian singer flourishing in their country.
When there are two brothers, one is rich and the other is poor. The richer one would only be able to help the poor one, similarly when our industry is stronger than theirs obviously it becomes our responsibility to help them avail the opportunities here. We have a market for our music and films there and also our industry appeals them. Give and take is between equals. If we are capable of giving then why not!

Sonu Niigaam Ji on Friendship Day ...

Friends are a blessing. And those who have true ones, know just how special they are. So while each one of us has had their shares of happy, sad and memorable moments with friends in school, college and workplace, wonder what kind of friends and friendship our B’wood celebs share.

And they have genuine ones too, stars share with us on this Friendship’s Day ...

Together, we laugh like kids: Sonu Niigaam Ji

But none of these friends of Sonu Ji are from Bollywood. “For I believe friends are those who know you in and out, ones who are there from your childhood. So it’s my group of friends from school who continue to remain by best friends till date,” says Sonu Ji. And they are “Kailash Chandani, who’s a friend from Std IX, Chintan Agarwal from Std X, Anurag Nigam, who’s a cousin but is more like my buddy, and Sanjay Chitale, a friend from New Jersey. My son was born at Sanjay’s place and it’s from then that we have remained friends. And while all, except Sanjay, are in Delhi, we keep in constant touch. And when we meet, it’s like house on fire. All these guys have such a peculiar sense of humour that we just laugh and laugh. What fun it is!” he exclaims.

But when it comes to recalling some special incidents or gestures by friends, it’s Kailash whom he remembers. “I remember how when for the first time I was leaving Delhi for Mumbai and was in a relationship with a girl, how Kailash helped me always. Mine being a conservative family, where even stepping out of the house without permission was not allowed, to have a girl call me was a very big thing. So then Kailash always came to my rescue. He’d come over, request my parents saying that we were going out for some fate or something, lend me his bike and then wait for five-six hours till I was away with her. Now, it’s only friends who’d do so much! I don’t have a real brother but with these guys with me, I’ve never even missed a brother.”

As from B’wood, “I have no best friend as such but I’m closest to Kailash Kher and composer Raju Singh. Like with Kailash, we are very friendly, but we don’t share dirty secrets. Though as much as I’d want to know his, I don’t share mine,” laughs Sonu Ji, coming quickly on Raju Singh, “With Raju, it’s more informal!”

And yet, Sonu Ji confesses, “I need friends but I have consciously strived not to make myself emotionally dependant on neither my family nor friends. That’s not to say, they are not an integral part of my life.”

Hats off to the legend.... Lots of Love...

Sonu Niigaam Ji sings for Appu Pappu ...

The famous bollywood playback singer Sonu Niigaam Ji sings for Appu Pappu... Here's a short cover story...

The first applause for any film is given by the songs. It was huge round of applause for national award winning music director Hamsalekha tunes on Wednesday evening after watching the four songs screened by producer Soundarya Jagadish.

Hamsalekha magic continues. The song Aeria Nam Aeria Nin Ellara Kalittiya Thintiya Odhe….shot on Master Snehith and hundreds of children is sung by Aishwarya, Sachin, Subramanya, Govinda, Usha, Hiranmai and Sanjana. This is a racy song.

Appa Appa amma Ellappa…. Sung by Hemanth and Aishwarya shot on father and son (Abbas and Master Snehith) is captured on exotic locations. The young son asking why you have left mother is crux of the song.

The song Makkaligaagi marugadha Jeeva Lokadalli Untenu….
sung by Sonu Niigaam Ji with very good melody, Aih Appu Manushyane Monkey Kano….on Orangutan and Master Snehith is sung in husky voice. The song on lord Hanuman Anjaneya….is sung by Hemanth and chorus and repeat song is sung by Shanker Mahadevan..

Cheers!!!
