Sonu Nigam and other bollywood stars will rock Dubai ....

Dubai is fast becoming the hot-spot for stars to ring 2012 from Bollywood, Hollywood and the UK.
tabloid! has learnt that Salman Khan jetted into town with his family in tow on Tuesday night, while his frenemy Shah Rukh Khan will jet into town this week. Given their tumultuous friendship, their paths are unlikely to cross.
While the Don 2 star is planning to throw a lavish bash for his close friends at his villa in Palm Jumeirah, the Bodyguard star will get the fireworks started with his clan at another separate private bash.
Word has it that Farhan Akhtar and Hrithik Roshan will also head to Dubai to celebrate their successful 2011 innings with Shah Rukh Khan.

Roshan's wife Sussane and Shah Rukh's wife Gauri and their two kids are reportedly in the city making the most of their festive holidays.
While it may be all play and no work for actors this weekend, Shah Rukh Khan is likely to put in a cameo appearance at a grand wedding that will have singers such as Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Apart from A-listers, Pakistani starlet Veena Malek and model-actress Sophie Chaudhry will be in Dubai on New Year's eve. While Malek is putting in an appearance at Fortune Plaza Hotel in Ghusais, Chaudhry is performing at a gig organised by the Country Club in Dubai.
Also expected are British TV stars Amy Childs (The Only Way Is Essex) and Denise Van Outen at Embassy, along with Peter Andre.

Global artistes come to India for freshness : Sonu Nigam ...

After collaborating with international pop star Britney Spears, Sonu Nigam, who is all set to team up with Swedish DJ Tim Berg, says that India attracts global artistes because the country has something new to offer.

The 38-year-old singer added a `desi` touch to Spears` hit track `I Wanna Go` from her latest album `Femme Fatale` and will now be lending his voice to electronic dance music by Berg aka DJ Avicii.

"These artistes want a change in their own music, that`s why they come to Indian musicians. They want to know how we can add something new to their music. They love what we do to their songs," Sonu told reporters.

"Secondly, India is a huge market. They want to explore it, the way Akon did. After his hit song Chammak Challo in `Ra.One`, Akon is known to everyone here," he added. Not only artistes, Sonu says, even international music shows are flooding the small screen here launching their Indian versions, including the hugely popular UK show `The X-Factor`.

"Every western musical show format has been introduced to us. There is another such show which is coming to India soon. It`s going to be the next big thing. Foreign companies sell these formats to Indian channels, who Indianise them. Indian Idol, X-Factor are like that," said Sonu, who was one of the judges on the maiden season of the Indian `X-Factor`.

Besides his foreign collaborations, Sonu has been lately in the news due to his four-year-old son Nevaan`s cover of the hit Tamil-English song `Kolaveri Di`, which went viral on the internet. But the doting father says he is not training his son to become a singer.

"He is just four, we don`t need to train kids that early. Singers are born, not trained. He is a smart boy who can dance and sing well. He has already sung once with Lata Mangeshkar. Whatever he wants to become in the future, we will be happy with it."

Despite lessening his work in playback singing for Bollywood films, the singer has his hands full with his independent albums and music composition.

"I have been very selective in my playback singing career for past six years. I have sung in films like `3 Idiots`, `Tees Maar Khan` and `Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji`."

Sonu is working as a composer with percussionist Bickram Ghosh to score music for Girish Malik`s upcoming film `Jal`.

"The composition for Jal is shaping up well. We are quite surprised with what we have come up. It should be out by next year. We are expecting more movies coming our ways and make a name as composers," said Sonu, who has also composed a track, written by Javed Akhtar and sung by six female singers, for an initiative taken by ArtistAloud.com for breast cancer awareness.

Talking about the current music scenario where Bollywood is ruling the charts, Sonu says independent music will only find takers if mainstream artistes come up with fresh content.

"We cannot blame the scenario if we do not come up with anything new in independent music. People will lap up non-film music if it is interesting enough. I would expect singers like Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, KK, Shreya Ghosal, Kunal Ganjawala to come out with their private albums - I am sure people would want to listen to them," he said.

Sonu and I have got two more films coming along : Bickram Ghosh ...

"Rhythmscape is my first love!"
Your band Rhythmscape is in its tenth year. How do you think the band has progressed in the last decade?
Rhythmscape is my first love! It’s who I am. That’s the kind of music and sound I believe in. We improvise like crazy on stage. I’m a classical musician and my style is to improvise. But for some other members, who are not classical musicians, it really goes against their grain. So, for them impromptu improvising is a big thing.

We’re much tighter, willing to experiment and improvise, and we are moving into a different space. But the soul of Rhythmscape is absolutely Indian. No compromise there.

What about your music company Melting Pot Productions? How’s that coming along?
Its moving slow because I am very often out of the pot (laughs)! It was a one-man-army kind of scenario. I’ve set up a team of 4-5 people who will now run the company, and hopefully in the next two years we’ll make it much bigger.

Could you share your upcoming musical projects?
Rhythmscape Transformations is coming up in January next year. There’s also an album called Navarasa in the pipeline. I don’t think expressing the nine rasas through rhythm has ever been attempted before. It’s all just drums. Then we have Mortal.
Then there is Tabla Sphere for which I’ve done something that I doubt anyone else has. I’ve done a track called ‘Body drum’ which just includes ‘acapella’ kind of sounds produced from my body. I’ve layered it with my own body sounds. We’ve shot the video about a month ago, so it should be out by February.

Additionally, there’s another potent album called Dragon Fly with Greg Ellis. It’s based on our weird philosophy that everything in this world is about rhythm and not melody.

One of the biggest things I’m doing right now is’ Live In…’ series. I’m curetting 600 shows a year. We’ve already done around 100 fabulous shows in Kolkata and we’re going to Delhi and Mumbai. The idea is to give people the multiplex music experience.

My heart still beats for Delhi : Sonu Nigam ...

Born and brought up in Delh-Faridabad, singing sensation Sonu Nigam kindles a special feeling for the national capital in his heart. In a candid chat with 'Delhi Desire' he shares his childhood memories and Delhi days….

Memories of Delhi
The word ‘Delhi’ always reminds me of my childhood days. Whenever I think about my city, my lips curve into a smile reminiscing those fun-filled days.

My Delhi friends
I have a group of awesome foursome –myself, my childhood friends Kailash Chandni, Chintan Nigam and my first cousin Anurag Mohan. Whenever we sit together, we just have a blast sharing old childhood memories.

Emporio is special
My uncle, aunts and other relatives stay in Delhi. Whenever I visit Delhi, I have to take a day off from my busy schedule to spend time with them. Usually, I do not get much time for shopping in Delhi. But once I had purchased some good stuffs from Emporio mall at Vasant Kunj and I really liked them.
Delhiites are awesome

Delhi is truly ‘Dilwalon ki nagri’. People are good here. But personally I think they need to increase their level of patience as there is always a chance for improvement for everyone, be it humans or a city.

Dhaba cum restaurant
My family friends, Sandeep and Monia Yadav, are settled in Delhi for the past 17-18 years. Whenever I visit Delhi I go to their place.  Instead of going to any dhaba or restaurants, I prefer to sit at their place and have a fun.

I get confused
Delhi has undergone huge changes. The mode of transportation and roads have changed, flyovers are coming up here and there. The metro-service has changed the look of Delhi. Though the city has become more organised, the changes confuse me.

Nevaan has an inclination towards music says Sonu Nigam ...

He is just four-year-old but his singing of new version of the popular `Tanglish' song 'Kolaveri Di' has created sensation and Papa Sonu Nigam is proud of the achievement. Nigam has said his son Nevaan has inclination towards music but he does not want to force anything on him as he is too young. Ever since the original `Tanglish' (Tamil and English) song, 'Kolaveri Di', sung by Dhanush, caught people's imagination and became a rage, several other versions of the number have hit the web, including one by Nigam's son. The kid's version has a new twist in the lyrics making it 'milk song'. The lyrics of Nevaan's song go as - 'handla glass-u, glass la milk-u, milk-u colour white-u, empty glass-u, mamma come-u, give me milk-u dear-u...' In the video, Nigam is seen along with his wife Madhurima, encouraging their son who grabs the microphone. "My son is a nice boy. He is innocent, does not cry much and keeps everyone happy. I am happy everyone has liked his song. He has inclination towards music," Nigam told PTI on margins of the launch of his devotional album last night. "He is a smart kid. He is too young and we don't want to impose anything on him. He is learning dancing, judo, and will soon be trying piano. He is too small and I want him to enjoy his childhood," the singer said. At the age of three, Nevaan had sung his first song with legendary Lata Mangeshkar. Nigam has recorded 24 different `Gayatri Mantras' for his latest devotional album, `Icchapurti Gayatri Mantras', which was launched by actor Akshay Kumar. "I like to experiment with different music genres. I have done romantic songs, bhajans, classical, semi-classical but had not ventured into mantra space," he said.

Nevaan is too young to be over exposed says Sonu Nigam ....

Ever since the orignal Kolaveri Di song has been released, several other versions of the number also have hit the web, including one by Sonu Niigaam's son, but the singer does not want to over-expose four-year-old Neevan.

"He is too small, he is just four years old, so he couldn't have done this for himself. As his father, I thought I should record his childhood thing. I want to protect him right now. He is too young to be over-exposed," said the 38-year-old singer who began his singing career at the age of three, joining his father on stage for a Mohammad Rafi song.

Sonu admits he never thought his son's version would become such a rage.

"We did it only for the posterity's sake. We never thought that it will be such a big hit. I knew that if it is put on YouTube, it will have lots of hits, but didn't know that it will become so big," said Sonu at a press conference at the Aamby Valley's annual New Year bash Glitterati 2012.

Sonu came to Mumbai at the age of 19 and after years of struggle, he hit the jackpot with Sandese Aate Hain in Border (1997). Two years later, his album Deewana became a super hit and later the song Yeh Dil Deewana from Pardes made him a name to reckon with.

He went on to sing hits like Kal Ho Na Ho, Panchhi Nadiyan, Suraj Hua Maddhham, Main Hoon Na, Saathiya, Main Agar Kahoon, Shukraan Allah and Jashn E Bahara. Sonu is currently working on an English album, Spirit Unfolding.

Dhanush loves Nevaan Nigam's Kolaveri Di version ....

Tamil star Dhanush’s chartbuster Why this kolaveri di is being loved by all, but he is highly impressed with the version sung by Sonu Niigaam’sSonu Niigaamji. four-year-old son, Nevaan. “Oh my god I’m in love with Nevaan’s version of ‘Kolaveri’. Great idea It’s very touching and endearing. Hi 5 nevaan. God bless,” Dhanush posted on micro-blogging site Twitter. Neevan’s version of the song has some different lyrics, but his innocence in the video has been winning hearts ever since it went online. If Dhanush’s song was called ‘Soup Song’, Neevan calls his version ‘Milk Song’. After receiving Dhanush’s compliments, Sonu tweeted: “Thank u @dhanushkraja ji… He so loved the song that we thought we should do this for him… And now he thinks you’ll meet him :) More Power!” Dhanush, son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, more than welcomed the idea. “@sonuniigaam he is a Rockstarji. Would love to meet him and also make a video with him. I know he will steal the show. Still… God bless,” he responded. Sonu seemed excited at the prospect of getting his son to meet Dhanush. “@dhanushkraja He’ll be so happy to meet u… He has emulated ur style so enthusiastically afterall… @dhanushkraja Thank u for giving our nation such an endearing treat of a song… God bless,” tweeted Sonu. Kolaveri di has received over 17 million hits on YouTube so far since its release November 16. The number has been composed by 18-year-old Anirudh Ravichander for Dhanush-starrer 3, which is being directed by his wife Aishwarya. The film also stars Shruti Haasan.

Sonu Nigam sings new tune of vande Matram ....

World-renowned percussionist and composer Bickram Ghosh has finished recording a new version of Vande Mataram. Sumati Mehrishi listens to its first strains at a Delhi recording studio and returns with goosebumps.

Patriotism-driven music is a dizzying thing. It makes a musician not realise he has transformed from an artiste into a patriot, sometimes, quite contrary to his musical temperament. Like Goddess Saraswati’s own blue-eyed boy from the east, Ustad Rashid Khan. And sometimes there are artistes like Amit Kilam, the versatile percussionist singer and guitarist from the Indi-Rock band Indian Ocean who wreck your senses beautifully, transforming their artistic aggression and expression into a war cry.

His fists drawn to his shoulders, the chin taut and temples tense, his eyes gruel the core of the microphone, he yells Vande Mataram, loud and louder. He isn’t at the war front or fuelling a coup, neither is he at the Dhyanchand National Stadium on Rs 100 ticket throbbing minutes before a do-or-die hockey contest. Well, that’s where I would really like to see Kilam, but I catch him at a recording studio in south Delhi, where he was recording with co-artistes Rahul Ram and Sushmit Sen for a new version of Vande Mataram conceived and directed by world-renowned percussionist and composer Bickram Ghosh, last week. The new version, a terrific attempt which has brought 20 artistes together, will be launched around January 26, 2012 — 12 years after AR Rahman came up with his take on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s poem.

Ghosh says, “I have tried to touch base with the real spirit in Vande Mataram. It is a soulful melody that connects us to our journey in 65 long years. The response from the musicians has been tremendous. In 10 days, I have 20 musicians turning up most happily, giving their own thought, beauty and philosophy to the pious poem. And this is when you realise as an artiste that you are doing things right. Also, I am very happy we have been given a free hand to do things our own way.”

As Kilam sings, it’s clear the situation is spilling out of Ghosh’s hands. The background track is running, and inside the recording space, Ram and Kilam are totally uncontrolled. Between themselves, they decide on their job. Kilam seethes it out in the higher octaves and Ram keeps it sustained and roaring in harmonies, in the rustic sandpaper, husky unbound, wavy renderings. Together they lash at the limits Ghosh had tried creating to be able to deliver the new version before the “deadline”. And this lack of control gives Ghosh the kick. He asks the sound arranger to “keep” every grain of improvisations. Meanwhile Sushmit Sen, the latest soloist who has to still record his piece on the guitar nods, his eyes slightly wet, he says, “Bickram, wait, they can do better than this.” Between Sen Ram and Kilam, there is no exchange of words. Yet there is a communication in a language that only musicians and brothers can understand and believe in.

At the studio, I am on an all-time high. It isn’t everyday you see Rahul Ram dodge a note to be able to sing what he has in heart. His hair tied and his soul flying and flowing, Ram sings carelessly like a free urban Baul singer. However, it is the first time I see Ghosh without a drum in his hand. It doesn’t pinch.

Ghosh adds, “Director Girish Malik is working on the video right now and that is something we have to be very careful as a team. The visuals have to touch base with India. Once this project is over, I am sure going to feel very empty. The last time I felt the same was during the performance for the Delhi Commonwealth Games. But in this venture time, I have spent more time with my co-artistes.”

The new Vande Mataram isn’t a melody that reeks of jingoism. It doesn’t provoke the slug match between the new and the old, the religious and the secular we Indians are so used to, today. It isn’t a melody made to celebrate our pretentious paeans of being a rising superpower. It isn’t the recycled melodic curio that makes you hop between socialism and Swadesh. The song curls around the calm and the chaos that reflect our love for the Motherland. Ustad Rashid Khan sculpts it devotionally, and Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan electrify it. Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Kaushiki Desikan give it the soul while maestro Shubha Mudgal, the element of the undefeated Shakti. Roop Kumar Rathore, Shaan, and Palash Sen have given it a mass appeal. Amaan Ali Khan, Rahul Sharma Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Niladri Kumar, Ganesh and Kumaresh, Mandolin U Srinivas  and Bickram Ghosh have lent it the spirit, the character and the sound.

The last time I felt the same was at a hockey stadium, where I had dialed my boss’ number to break into screams and tears, announcing an unusual victory. It’s an expression she is quite used to now every time the national sport is in news. And may be, I am one of the many million who choose to vent the emotion for this reason or that, this occasion or that, for this sport or that. At the time when my peers are busy hitting upon the “revolutionary” video of the Tamil film song Kolaveri di, where the sensational actor Dhanush, filmed singing at a recording studio crooning like an incorrigible helpless Romeo, regretting pretentiously the woman’s “murderous rage”, I am dabbling with a completely different emotion sitting on the other side of the glass window of a recording studio. I am with people who are stars in their own right. I am with the voices that can wake the nation from a slumber. I am with minds that think music not out of profession, or a choice, a venture or an opportunity, but out of a madness and habit they best can explain and not. These musicians have no formal onus or duty on them of “binding the nation together.” They are supposed to be the self sufficient, art driven, sound shaken moody mavericks who like being in their own romantic space of “performing” on certain lines and lineage, or “cultural ambassadors”. But inside the studio for pukaar of Vande Mataram, they are no less than crusaders.

Sonu Nigam remembers Dev Sahab .....

Bollywood is still shocked and has been expressing grief at the loss of legendary actor Dev Anand. However, the evergreen superstar has left some really amusing memories for the residents of the tinsel town. Singer Sonu Nigam expressed his affection towards the man, who was young at heart and he also got nostalgic while remembering the star.

“I have known Dev Saheb since 1999. He offered me two films, but I couldn’t do them that time. Dev Saheb wrote a hand written note for me during my wedding and I still remember that,” expressed Sonu.

“He is the first person who died at 88, but still people think itne jaldi kaise chale gaye (sic),” Sonu concluded.

The November 2008 rampage, which began on November 26 and lasted until November 29, killed 166 people and wounded at least 308.

Khali said: "I just want to say that the incident that took place in Mumbai should never occur again."

The attacks were more than 10 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai, by Islamist attackers who came from Pakistan.

Eight of the attacks occurred in South Mumbai: at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital (a women and children`s hospital), the Nariman House Jewish community centre, the Metro Cinema, and a lane behind the Times of India building and St. Xavier`s College.

There was also an explosion at Mazagaon, in Mumbai`s port area, and in a taxi at Vile Parle.

Sonu Nigam : Rebels like me are not respected or accepted ...

Kishore Kumar, R. D. Burman, Sonu Nigam He's earned his share of (in)famous publicity, courtesy his rash and abrasive attitude. Sonu Nigam, thankfully accepts all that flak coming his way; his irascible retort to sporting long unruly hair (and sometimes, two ponytails!) his dressing style and more; his rants on Twitter and assorted details provided ample grist for gossip.

"Rebels like me are not generally respected or accepted," carps Nigam in a media quote. "People didn't value R. D. Burman or Kishore Kumar when they were alive. People also made fun of Michael Jackson when he was alive. They were all rebels."

The rebel side of him, however, seems to have been sorted out by spouse Madhurima. "My wife understood me, but a bit late," admits Nigam in a magazine comment. "We had problems, we still have problems, because we are both assertive and independent people. Every marriage goes through its ups and downs, but marriage as an institution has to be reworked."

Sonu Nigam rocked Dubai once again ....

With songs such as Kal Ho Na Ho (Kal Ho Na Ho), In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein (Jodha Akbar), All Izz Well (3 Idiots), Tanhai (Dil Chahta Hai) and Sanchi Sanchi (Dabangg) in his list, Sonu Niigaam entertained Dubai on Monday evening at a houseful Madinat Jumeirah Arena.

The show, organised by Shashi and Naresh Oberoi of Oberoi Middle East Events, also marked the tenth successful show with the singer, who thanked them for the immense part they've played in his success in the UAE.

Unlike most Bollywood events, the show, surprisingly, started on time. Ten minutes after the stipulated start time, an audio-visual presentation with clips from Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai re-introduced the audience to the achievements of the evening's performer. And soon after the stage was taken by Gunjan, a little known support singer of Niigaam's. Mansi, the compere, couldn't decide between her beauty or singing talents.

Beauty aside, as a singer she is seriously underrated, as she smoothly glided from a soulful romantic oldie into Sheila Ki Jawaani (Tees Maar Khan) and the English version of the A.R. Rahman blockbuster Jai Ho.

Sonu Nigam paid a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika at Qutab Festival ....

Day 2 at the Qutub Festival 2011 witnessed the Bollywood stalwart Sonu Nigam in concert at the iconic backdrop of Qutub Minar.

Post announcement his voice reverberated before he appeared from behind the smoke screen. And the 6000-capacity Qutub complex in Mehrauli, which was bursting at
the seams, went into a frenzy to see their star perform. Clad in Indo-western attire, black from top to toe the singer subtly merged with his surroundings.

Delhi CM Sheila Dixit graced the event and Nigam acknowledged her presence by saying "I met Sheila Dixit ji for the first time in 2005 in Australia during Commonwealth Games."

The first song he sang was the killer from SRK-Preity-Saif  starrer Kal Ho Na Ho.

His voice boomed "Namaste Delhi, feels good to be back home, to play for the home crowd." And the excitement was all too palpable. Nigam's fans were dancing, jiving, clicking away with their cell phones and reacting to each syllable their demi-god uttered.
Next came a popular track from Saif-Kareena starrer Kurbaan.

In the middle of his gig Nigam paid a tribute to music legend Bhupen Hazarika, who passed away on November 5, saying "this is not Hazarikia ji's song but I'm dedicating this to him."

Sonu Nigam gets ready to rock Dubai.....

Indian singing icon Sonu Nigam, the ‘Lord of the Chords’, returns to Dubai for his 10th concert, Shukran Dubai 2011, at the Madinat Jumeirah Indoor Arena on November 7.
The show will be a four-hour Bollywood spectacular, as Sonu brings his 30-member troupe, specially choreographed with Bollywood dancers and musicians, to celebrate Eid.
“I am thinking about what to do,” said the performer. “I believe that whatever man does, it is the divine help that makes him successful. I am completing 10 years of outstanding performances here, but I can’t take the credit,” Sonu added.
“This year, I have put my best effort with new songs, a new format and new musicians. Still, I have to surrender to the divine power. People come to the concerts for good music and good vocals, I will try to convey that as long as I can,” he told City Times in an exclusive interview.
Back in India, Sonu has sung for upcoming Hindi films Krrish 2, a superhero sci-fi, and Joker, a fantasy adventure film in 3-D. He has also done The X-Factor India TV show as a judge in addition to his regular concerts.
Sonu specially mentioned the film Jal, for which he is composing music with famous tabla player/percussionist Bickram Ghosh. This is the first time the duo are composing for a Bollywood film. The title song is a unique composition, for which they have used ragas like Marwa and Puriya, combined with rare musical instruments like the Armenian Duduk. The entire song was created in a day. The film, starring Purab Kohli, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Kirti Kulhari, is directed by actor-turned-director Girish Malik. The storyline is about how people in Kutch go to great lengths to save water.
“You must listen to the music of Jal. It is melodious, meaningful, sensible music,” Sonu said. The release is scheduled for March-April 2012.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING PICKY

Sonu is known for his melodious songs and for being selective in what he wants to sing.  “Most of them are melodious, but I can say that I have done all kinds of songs, even the ‘badmashi’ type. However, I select my songs properly,” he said.
“Recently, A.R. Rahman wanted me to sing a song. The lyrics of the song were terrible. I declined, with respect. Another singer has done that song. You can see, I am so cautious about my work. The legacy of the songs has to be built,” Sonu said.
But are the listeners’ attitude towards music and lyrics shifting from melody to “street” language?
“The audience are not to be blamed. They are hungry for music. They take what we give them. It is the musicians who are the ones who bring about change, whether for the good or for the bad,” Sonu explained.
“When I did the songs for Deewana, everybody liked them. If I sing dirty songs or hurt the religious feelings of people, some will say it is good work and some will say it is bad work.  Both, good and bad music have their market. It is up to what we give to our audience,” he continued.
“Our job is to give good music to the people, but we must also respect the other people.”

Sonu Nigam, Pyarelal recreate 1960s magic at GIMA Awards ....

Sonu Thursday night revisited the retro era at the Kingdom of Dreams here as he sang some of the popular songs composed by the musical duo live with Pyarelal conducting the orchestra behind.
The audience swayed to the symphony of the live music as Sonu set the mood starting with songs like “Chahunga main tujhe”, “Sawan ka mahina”, “Yeh jeevan hai”, “Bindiya chamkegi” and “Parda hai parda”.
The energy levels of the audience went up as Sonu went on to sing high-octane songs like “Paisa yeh paisa” and “Om shanti om”. He later asked Shah Rukh Khan to join him on stage and shake a leg with him.
Pyarelal, who received a standing ovation, dedicated the award to all the people he has worked with.
“I dedicate this award to singers and musicians with whom we have worked with till now. We have worked as a team and it is because of them that we became Lakshmikant-Pyarelal,” said Pyarelal after receiving the award.
“I would also like to add that Lata-ji (Mageshkar) has played a very important part in wherever we have reached today,” he added.

It was Bipasha Basu's desire to visit Lalbaugcha Raja this year with her mother Mamta, her manager Tanujaa Mehra, Madhuri (hairdresser) and Safar (spotboy).

The Times of India arranged for her to attend the aarti. She arrived at the venue at 8 pm, wearing a Manish Malhotra ensemble. Word of her arrival spread quickly and the security guards had a tough time keeping the crowd at bay. Bips was initially nervous but performed the aarti along with Sonu Nigam, wife Madhurima and son Nevaan. Sonu even sang the aarti.

Said Bipasha, "For the past six years, maa has wanted me to take her to visit Lalbaug Cha Raja. So this year I took a day off from work for her, as TOI arranged the visit for me. We braved the traffic and reached on time, but as I stepped out of the car I realised that there was a sea of people around us. There were a few scary minutes but somehow we got in. It was chaos, but once we were in front of the mangal murti all my tension vanished."

She adds, "It was a magical experience. Sonu sang the aarti and so many prayed together. The cops, armed guards and volunteers are doing a great job there. I will surely visit next year too!"
